| Marimba Chiapaneca |
![]() The marimba is perhaps the most representative instrument of southern Mexico and certainly Central America. Basically a wooden xylophone, marimbas are made of flat wooden bars laid out chromatically (from bigger and lower to smaller and higher sounding). Under the twin mallets of a professional, a marimba "sings" our the deepest of feelings. The band, Estrella de Chiapas or Star of Chiapas, has reunited on this CD with a collection of songs that celebrate the festive, upbeat nature of Mexico and Mexicans. Virtuoso performers all, expect to hear marimbas "que cantan con voz de mujer" —that sing like a woman. |
